FENCING CENTER Club Equipment Rules
Fencing equipment is expensive, and the Sport Fencing Center is
fortunate to have a reasonable amount of gear for use by its members.
The club policy is that members who are students at SFC may use
all club equipment while they remain members. Other members who
are beginner fencers may use Club equipment, which is provided for
the first 3-4 months of instruction. Students are expected to purchase
their own as they advance to the youth or teen programs. See Darwin
Martos for information on equipment packages and orders.
Please put away/hang up all equipment where you found it. Although
this may seem like common sense, the equipment room rapidly becomes
a mess when people don't take care. Members are all expected to
help set up and put away the electric equipment and fencing strips.
If you find that there is a shortage of working equipment, why not
volunteer to help fix some? Most gear is easy to fix, and anyone
can learn how to do it - our Armourer is happy to teach interested
parties, and members are expected to attend regular sessions to
repair equipment.
Don't take any equipment home. Our club gear must remain in the
club for they are used for various demonstrations, out reach programs,
and competitions.
Failure to comply by the rules will result in your loss of privileges
to use club gear.
Safety
Please handle the equipment carefully. Don't raise, or wave your
weapon tip in the air, keep them down, also, don't engage weapons
until you and your partner have masks on.
There are nationally recognized standards of safety with regard
to fencing, and our rules relating to safety are not negotiable.
Proper fencing attire is required at all times - fencers must wear
a mask, pants below the knee, glove, plastron, and jacket. Fencing
should not hurt, and you should be wearing enough protective gear
so that you feel comfortable and safe. Shorts are not allowed.
To purchase equipment, or for equipment repairs, see Darwin Martos.
